Tokyo stocks open slightly higher on Dow's 9th straight record close

TOKYO, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened slightly higher on Tuesday, as investor sentiment was bolstered by the Dow Jones Industrial Average closing at a fresh record high overnight for the ninth successive day.

As of 9:15 a.m. local time, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged up 3.32 points, or 0.02 percent, from Monday to 20,059.21.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, inched 0.90 point, or 0.05 percent higher, to 1,640.17.

Fishery, agriculture and forestry, iron and steel and miscellaneous shares comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes of trade.
