TOKYO, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Monday as Wall Street's solid gains at the end of last week set a positive tone after robust U.S. jobs data, while a comparably soft yen versus the U.S. dollar encouraged buying.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 100.74 points, or 0.50 percent, from Friday to 20,053.07.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 8.24 points, or 0.51 percent, to 1,639.69.

Transportation equipment, nonferrous metal and mining-linked stocks comprised those that gained the most in early trade.
