TOKYO, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Friday as the market mood was soured by the yen's advance against the U.S. dollar, which sent exporters lower and weighed on the broader market.

As of 9:15 a.m. local time, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 89.75 points, or 0.45 percent, from Thursday to 19,939.51.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, dropped 6.60 points, or 0.40 percent, to 1,627.22.

Marine transportation, mining and food-linked issues comprised those that lost the most ground during early trade.
