HERAT, Afghanistan, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Two girls allegedly daughters of a civil society activist claimed Tuesday that they were attacked with acid by two unidentified men riding motorbike, a police spokesman in the province Sayed Ahmad Mohammadi said.

The incident happened early Tuesday morning, when two sisters Yakta and Fareshta were walking on a street in Herat city when two unknown men riding a motorbike spared acid on them, Mohammadi said.

Without providing more details, the official said that "It is too early to confirm if the substance used in attacking the girls" was acid.

Several Afghan women, mostly schoolgirls, were attacked with acid in their faces by motorcycle riders, for which, the Taliban and other extremist groups were blamed in the past years.
