KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Two Afghan army soldiers were killed and seven people wounded following a heavy Taliban militants' offensive in Qalay-i-Zal district of the country's northern Kunduz province, a local official said Wednesday.

The incident took place early Wednesday morning, when the Taliban attacked an Afghan forces' joint check-post in Afghan-Mazar area of the district, bordering Tajikistan, leaving two army soldiers dead and seven others, including two policemen wounded, district Chief Abdul Mumeen Omarkhil told Xinhua.

Confirming the incident, Mohammad Safar, an officer of Kunduz provincial police said that at least six militants have also been killed in the skirmish, but the Taliban had not still commented on the incident.

The Kunduz province, as well as neighboring Baghlan and Takhar provinces, has been the scene of heavy clashes over the past couple of months as Taliban has been trying to challenge the government forces in the once relatively peaceful region.
