Armenia, Russia deepen cooperation in multiple fields

Yerevan, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Armenia and Russia signed joint cooperation agreements in the fields of transportation, IT and telecommunications, and industrial security here on Tuesday during the visit of a Russian delegation led by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

Medvedev arrived in Yerevan for official visit on Tuesday and was welcomed by his Armenian counterpart Karen Karapetyan at the airport, reported the official website of the Government of Armenia.

The negotiations between the both sides started after visiting the Armenian Genocide Memorial, according to the report.

There was a huge potential for bilateral relations between Armenia and Russia, said Karapetyan during the meeting.

Recently our countries have managed to set the correct model of interaction not only on a bilateral track, but also within the multilateral framework, noted Medvedev during the negotiations.

Medvedev said that the trade turnover increased by around 30 percent in January-August this year.

His delegation is consisted of First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov, Minister of Telecom and Mass Communications Nikolay Nikiforov, Energy Minister Alexander Novak, Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov and other high-ranking officials. Chairman of Gazprom's Management Committee Alexey Miller is also among the members of delegation.

Medvedev is going to participate in the session of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Yerevan on Wednesday.
