YEREVAN, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Armenian government Thursday approved a renewal of its agreement on Russia's natural gas supplies, but the country will receive Russian natural gas at a lower price, according to Armenpress.

"The agreement on the prices of gas expires on Dec. 31 of this year, so we have extended the agreement," Armenian Energy Infrastructure and Natural Resources Minister Ashot Manukyan was quoted as saying by Armenpress.

Armenia signed an agreement with Russia on Dec. 2, 2013 to receive Russia's natural gas supplies at a price of 165 U.S. dollars per thousand cubic meters.

When Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev visited Armenia in April, the two countries reached an agreement to cut the price to 150 dollars per thousand cubic meters.

The new deal will be valid from Jan. 1, 2017 till Dec. 31, 2017.
