KABUL, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Afghan President Ashraf Ghani left here on Thursday morning for Tajikistan to attend a power project summit and a trilateral summit with Tajikistan and Pakistan, the Afghan Presidential Palace said.

Ghani will deliver a speech during the second CASA-1000 Summit in Dushanbe, and will take part in Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Pakistan Trilateral Summit later on Thursday, the palace said in a statement.

Under CASA-1000 project, which was launched in May last year, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan will supply 1,300 MW of electricity to Pakistan (1,000 MW) and Afghanistan (300 MW) during the summer season.

The 1.2 billion U.S. dollars scheme was the first power project linking Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan and is expected to be completed by next year.

The Afghan leader will also hold a meeting with his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon to discuss the ways for enhancing bilateral ties, according to the statement.
