FAIZABAD, Afghanistan, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Taliban militants abducted deputy governor of Nasai district of Afghan northern Badakhshan province on Wednesday, police said.
"Mawlawi Mohammad Sharif the deputy for Nasai district was on way to provincial capital Faizabad today morning when a group of Taliban militants intercepted his car on the way and took him to unknown location," police spokesman for the northern region Mahfozullah Akbari told Xinhua.
Efforts are underway to secure safe release of the official, Akbari added.
Taliban militants who are in control of parts of Badakhshan province have yet to claim responsibility.
