KABUL, June 15 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan capital city of Kabul would have its first-ever Metro bus service within the next one year, Kabul acting Mayor Abdullah Habibzai said here on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference, Habibzai said that the work on the first phase of the Metro bus project would begin Thursday and would be completed within one year.

Without giving details on the cost and length of the Metro bus service project, the official added that Kabul Municipality would do its best to provide better services to its residents.

Kabul with a population of more than 5 million is still suffering from congested roads, battered streets and traffic jam almost every day.

The mayor also said that 16 projects for the construction of roads and streets in the capital city were signed to improve the transport system in the crowded city.
