5 civilians killed, 7 others injured as blast hits E. Afghan province

SHARAN, Afghanistan, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Five civilians were killed and seven others injured as a blast rocked Jani Khil district in Paktika province in eastern Afghanistan Wednesday, provincial governor Mohammad Alyas Wahdat said.

"The blast occurred at around noon next to the house of a local police official in Jani Khil district; as a result, four children and a woman were martyred and seven others including six children and a woman sustained injuries," Wahdat told Xinhua.

Without giving more detail, the official said that an investigation has been initiated into the case.

Paktika province with Sharan as its capital 155 km south of Kabul has been the scene of Taliban-led insurgency over the past few years.
