KABUL, June 14 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan law enforcement agencies have detained six people for alleged drug-related crime within a week, authorities said on Wednesday.

"Counter-Narcotics Police of Afghanistan (CNPA) have cracked six drug cases and captured six persons involved in the cases in western Farah and eastern Nangarhar provinces within the last one week," the Counter-Narcotics Criminal Justice Task Force of Afghanistan (CJTF) said in a statement.

The CNPA also confiscated from arrestees 23 kg of heroin, over 142 kg of opium and 70,000 U.S. dollars in cash, the statement said, adding the CNPA also seized three vehicles and five mobile phones.

Much of the world's opium poppy is cultivated in militancy-hit Afghanistan, particularly in western and southern parts of the country, where government security forces have little presence.

After an initial investigation, the cases were shifted to the Central Narcotics Tribunal (CNT), a special Afghan court for jurisdiction of drug cases, the statement noted.
