LASHKAR GAH, Afghanistan, June 14 (Xinhua) -- A suicide car bomb targeted a rival faction of Taliban led by Mullah Rasoul in Gereshk district of Afghanistan's southern Helmand province on Wednesday, casualties feared, spokesman for provincial government Omar Zawak said.

"A car bomb obviously organized by rival group targeted the faction of Taliban led by Mullah Rasoul in Saminar Dasht area of Gereshk district at around 09:00 a.m. local time today inflicting casualties," Zawak told Xinhua.

However, he noted that since the area is under Taliban control, he can't say about the exact figure of the death and injuries.

Meantime, Mullah Manan Niazi, the spokesman for Mullah Rasoul faction of Taliban group in contact with media, confirmed the suicide attack but refused to comment on the possible casualties.

Taliban group in Afghanistan has been divided since the murder of its leader Mullah Mansoor in May last year. The group has been under the charge of Mullah Haibatullah Akhundzaza, but his rival Mullah Mohammad Rasoul Akhund has been challenging Haibatullah's leadership. Since then supporters of the two Mullahs have occasionally fighting in part of Afghanistan.
