HANOI, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Vietnamese border guards have detained two local men for transporting 26,200 pills of lab-made drugs from Laos to Vietnam.

The two detainees, Sung Van Dinh, 40, and Sung Van Ly 34, both from Vietnam's central Thanh Hoa province, were arrested on Thursday when transporting the drug hidden in beer cans and soft drink cans, the provincial authorities said on Friday.

The two men confessed that on Wednesday they illegally crossed border, bought the pills in Laos and transported them back to Vietnam for sales.

According to the Vietnamese law, those convicted of smuggling over 600 grams of heroin or more than 2.5 kg of methamphetamine are punishable by death. Making or trading 100 grams of heroin or 300 grams of other illegal drugs also faces death penalty.
