HANOI, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam spotted and foiled 27 attacks targeting computer networks, including those at an international media center, during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders' Week, Vietnamese minister of information and communications said on Friday.

Vietnam has so far this year detected over 11,000 computer attacks, including 27 targeting servers used for the APEC Leaders' Week, local online newspaper quoted Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan as saying before Vietnamese lawmakers at a question and answer session.

The APEC Leaders' Week drew the participation of 11,000 people, including over 2,800 Vietnamese and foreign reporters who often worked at the APEC international media center during the week from Nov. 6 to Nov. 11 in central Da Nang city.

Regarding online security, 41 percent of agencies and organizations in Vietnam have yet to make risk appraisal, 51 percent have yet to adopt standard procedures to respond to network incidents, and 73 percent have yet to take information safety measures, the minister said.

The minister said Vietnam should give preferential treatment to Vietnamese telecommunications service providers, social network developers, advertisers and digital content developers, so that local social networks can compete with foreign ones such as Facebook and YouTube in the next five to seven years.
