HANOI, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Vietnamese police on Wednesday detained three local people and confiscated 26,700 pills of ecstasy transported from the Netherlands to Vietnam's Hanoi capital.

The drug was hidden in nine coffee bags made from nylon and transported by an express delivery service, the Hanoi police said, adding that three detainees include two from the capital city and one from Ho Chi Minh City.

Local police are further investigating the case.

According to the Vietnamese law, those convicted of smuggling over 600 grams of heroin or more than 2.5 kg of methamphetamine are punishable by death. Making or trading 100 grams of heroin or 300 grams of other illegal drugs also faces death penalty.
