JAKARTA, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Transport Ministry of Indonesia is planning to raise floor prices for low-cost carriers in an effort to boost flight safety, a minister said here on Tuesday.
Indonesian Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said that the ministry will soon unveil new rules on the price hike.
"Safety is number one. We must seriously apply it. It has been the time for us to carry out a calculation," he said at the presidential office.
Sumadi said that the hike will range from 5 to 10 percent and it must be first coordinated with all stakeholders in the sector.
The country has witnessed some air accidents in recent years involving some budget airliners.
