JAKARTA, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- In a bid to garner more medals in 2018 Asian Games (Asiad) held at home, Indonesia plans to send 17 athletes in Wushu sports of which Indonesia has excellent international reputation in the last few years.
Citing to Indonesia's praiseworthy record in the recent 14th Wushu World Championship held in Russia's Kazan city, a senior official of Indonesian Wushu Association Ngatino said Indonesia has greater chances to seize more medals in Asiad from the sports.
"We would register 17 athletes in Wushu sports despite the maximum of 13 athletes allocated for the sports," Ngatino said here on Friday, referring to the unconfirmed plans that number of national athletes contending in Wushu sports would be trimmed down to 13 by national sports committee.
He added that should the plan was confirmed, national wushu organization would finance the exceeding number of Wushu athletes sent to Asiad.
Indonesia earned two gold medals in the world championship, contributed by top Wushu athletes Lindswell Kwok and Felda Elvira.
In total, Indonesia earned 7 medals in the wushu world championship held from September 28 to October 3 in Kazan.
Indonesia's two cities of Jakarta and Palembang were scheduled to host the 18th Asian Games from August 18 to September 2 next year, to be participated by at least 11,000 athletes from 45 countries and regions who would contend in 40 sports.
