SEOUL, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- South Korean President Moon Jae-in's approval rating modestly rose for two weeks in a row, a poll showed Thursday.

According to the Realmeter survey, support for Moon edged up 0.8 percentage points over the week to 68.5 percent this week.

It was the second straight weeks of increase at a modest pace, ending the previous downward trend caused by the rising geopolitical risks on the Korean Peninsula.

The result was based on a poll of 2,059 voters conducted from Sunday to Wednesday. It had 2.2 percentage points in margin of error with a 95 percent confidence level.

Moon's ruling Democratic Party garnered 50.2 percent in support scores this week, up 0.5 percentage points from the previous week.

Support for the main opposition Liberty Korea Party gained 1.9 percentage points to 19 percent, keeping an upward momentum for the second consecutive week.

The centrist People's Party won 5.2 percent in approval rating, with the minor conservative Righteous Party and the minor progressive Justice Party garnering 5.3 percent and 4.7 percent respectively.

In a separate poll, six out of 10 South Koreans opposed the unification of the Liberty Korea Party and the Righteous Party.

According to the Realmeter survey, 62.9 percent of respondents opposed the attempt among some of conservative politicians to re-unify the conservative parties. Only 22.5 percent was in favor of the unification.

Members of the Righteous Party defected from the Saenuri Party, predecessor of the Liberty Korea Party, as support for the Saenuri Party tumbled after a corruption scandal involving impeached President Park Geun-hye.

The result was based on a survey of 506 voters conducted on Wednesday. It had 4.4 percentage points in margin of error with a 95 percent confidence level.
