SEOUL, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Senior diplomats of South Korea and the United States will hold a vice-ministerial strategic dialogue next week in Seoul, South Korea's foreign ministry said Wednesday.
Vice Foreign Minister Lim Sung-nam will hold strategic talks with visiting U.S. Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan on Oct. 18 in Seoul, according to Seoul's foreign ministry.
It would mark the first such talks since the U.S.-South Korea vice-ministerial strategic dialogue was last held in June 2014 in Washington.
It would also be the first such a meeting between the two allies since South Korean President Moon Jae-in took office in May.
The South Korean Foreign Ministry said the upcoming meeting would prepare for U.S. President Donald Trump's scheduled visit to South Korea in November, while consulting on major issues of the two countries, including the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)'s nuclear program.
On the same day, Lim and Sullivan will hold a trilateral meeting with their Japanese counterpart Shinsuke Sugiyama to discuss the DPRK's nuclear and missile threats, the stable management of the Korean Peninsula situation and the peaceful resolution of the DPRK's nuclear and missile programs as well as regional and global issues.
The trilateral meeting was last held in January in Washington.
The South Korean vice foreign minister will hold a separate bilateral meeting with his visiting Japanese counterpart next week.
