JAKARTA, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian authorities have boosted monitoring on Mount Agung volcano in Bali resort island as nearly 144,000 people have fled the rumbling mountain, according to disaster agency top official on Wednesday.
Mount Agung volcano in Karang Asem district has been on the highest alert status since September 22 with continuing hike of seismic activities.
The national disaster management agency and volcanology agency have used five units of drones with three specifications to monitor the development of the volcano and its surrounding areas, head of the disaster agency Willem Rampangilei said.
"We must deploy drones with special capabilities being capable to fly high and record all developments inside the crater," he told Xinhua in a text message.
The agencies have deployed five drones for the purpose, according to him.
Volcanologists have extended a no-go zone to 12 km from the crater in the north, northeast, south, southeast and southwest.
Mount Agung last erupted in 1963, killing about 1,100 people.
