JAKARTA, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- The government of Indonesia has promised to give an attractive reward to their athletes who will vie in the 18th Asian Games next year in a bid to spur their performance.
Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla disclosed on Friday that the government would give a 1 billion rupiah (some 741,565 U.S. dollars), a big number according to local standard, in prize to the athletes securing a gold medal in the regional sport event.
"The government would provide big amount of bonuses for (athletes having medals) in the Asian Games," said Kalla.
For those securing silver and bronze medal will be provided respectively a 200 million rupiah (about 14,831 U.S. dollars) and a 100 million rupiah (equal to 7,416 U.S. dollars) in bonus, he added.
The vice president expects the reward to stimulate and push the athletes to practice in harder way.
The 18th Asian Games is scheduled to be held in Indonesia's capital and Palembang city from Aug. 18 to Sept. 2, 2018.
A total of 10,000 athletes will vie in 40 sports in the regional event.
