NEW DELHI, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- At least four people have been killed and three others injured in a road accident in the southern Indian state of Telangana Monday, police said.

"The accident occurred this morning when two speeding cars coming from opposite directions collided head-on in state's Peddapalli area," a senior police official said.

While three members of a family who were travelling in one of the cars died on the spot, the driver of the second car died of his injuries in the hospital, the official said.

"The other three injured persons are currently undergoing treatment at the same hospital, but the condition of one is said to be serious," he added.

Eyewitnesses told cops that the two cars were travelling at high speed and both drivers lost control of their vehicles, leading to the accident.
