Egypt's delegation in Gaza to observe handover of ministries

GAZA, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- A high-ranking Egyptian security delegation arrived on Sunday in Gaza to observe the handover of ministries to the Palestinian consensus government of Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah.

The delegation, headed by Gen. Khaled Fawzi, chief of the Egyptian security intelligence, arrived in the Gaza Strip through Erez crossing point on the borders between northern Gaza Strip and Israel, according to Palestinian officials.

As soon as Gen. Fawzi and the Egyptian delegation arrived in Gaza, they held talks with Islamic Hamas movement chief Ismail Haneya and Gaza Hamas chief Yehya Sinwar at Hamas headquarters in Gaza City.

The arrival of the Egyptian delegation is to observe implementing a reconciliation agreement reached in Cairo last month between Hamas and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Fatah Party.

According to the agreement, Hamas dissolved a controversial administrative committee it formed to run the daily life in the Gaza Strip and agreed to handover all the daily services ministries to the consensus government of Hamdallah.
