JALALABAD, Afghanistan, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- At least four children were killed and 34 others wounded in a traffic accident in Afghanistan's eastern province of Nangahar, a local official said Saturday.

The incident took place late on Friday in Girakhil area of the province, where a Coaster-type van skidded off the roadside hill and fell apart, killing four children and injuring 34 passengers including women and children, Ataullah Khogyanai, the provincial governor spokesman, said in a statement.

The reason behind the accident was negligence of the driver, said the source, adding the wounded passengers were rushed to the nearest health-centers in Pachiraga district and Jalalabad provincial hospital.
