ASADABAD, Afghanistan, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- At least 18 Islamic State (IS) militants together with their three local commanders were killed in drone attacks in Afghanistan's eastern Kunar province, an official said Thursday.

"The first incident took place late on Wednesday, when an unmanned air vehicle of NATO-led troops targeted militants' hideouts, leaving 11 fighters, including two of their local commanders, dead in Batash Dara area of Nari district," Juma Gul Hemmat, the provincial police chief, told reporters.

In the second incident, a drone strike resulted in the death of seven IS fighters, including one IS local commander, in the Sawki area of Ghazi Abad district, according to the source.

The mountainous province bordering Pakistan has been the scene of clashes between security forces and IS militants since early 2015.

Earlier this week, four IS militants were reportedly killed and as many wounded in the neighboring province of Nangarhar.
