KIEV, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- Five people were killed on Wednesday after a passenger car collided with a truck in Ukraine's northwestern Rivne region, said the police authorities.
The accident occurred on the Kiev-Kovel-Yagodyn highway at around 7:00 a.m. local time (0400 GMT), when the driver of the car lost control of his vehicle and rammed into the heavy truck on the oncoming lane, the National Police said in a statement.
Four passengers in the car were killed on spot following the collision, while another man died in the hospital.
Later in the day, Ukrainian media reported that four well-known Ukrainian political analysts and a journalist were the victims of the crash, but there was no confirmation of these reports from the authorities.
The police have launched an investigation into the accident.
