TBILISI, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Georgian Chief Prosecutor's Office has addressed Ukraine to take extradition measures against Georgia's ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili, said the Office on Tuesday.

"We once more filed a motion with the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine and General Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine, requesting them to detain and extradite Mikheil Saakashvili" to Georgia, the Office said in a statement.

Saakashvili served two terms as Georgia's president from 2004 till 2013. In 2014, he was officially charged in Georgia in four criminal cases, including abuse of power, violent dispersal of anti-government protests, embezzlement and exceeding official powers using violence in Georgia.

However, by the time his case went through court he escaped to Ukraine and obtained the Ukraine citizenship in May, 2015.

He then lost his Georgian citizenship in 2015 and lost his Ukrainian citizenship about a month ago. He does not have any citizenship now.

According to the Georgian government, if he returns to Georgia in the future, he will face a trial in a court.
