Four killed in road accident in northern Spain

MADRID, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Four people were killed when a car collided with a truck in a road accident on a highway in the north of Spain on Tuesday morning, the emergency services said.

The collision took place at 7:42 a.m. local time (0842 GMT) on the N-1 motorway close to the town of Pancorbo, which is the midway between the cities of Bilbao and Burgos.

The four passengers, who were trapped inside the car, were pronounced dead at the scene.

One of the lanes on the motorway was closed as firemen from the nearby town of Miranda de Ebro were called to the scene. Ambulances with intensive care facilities were also dispatched.

A further two people were injured in the collision, reports said.

Authorities are working to identify the victims while members of the Civil Guard are investigating the accident.
