MADRID, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- The number of people registered as unemployed in Spain fell by 26,887 from June to July, according to data published on Wednesday by the Spanish Ministry of Employment and Social Security.

The total number of unemployed people stood at 3,335,924 in July, a similar level to that of the beginning of 2009, just after the financial crisis hit Spain in 2008.

On a year-on-year basis, unemployment fell by 347,137 people over the last 12 months.

Regarding sectors, unemployment fell by 17,656 people from June to July in the services sector, especially due to the tourist peak season. It also fell by 5,257 people in the industry sector and by 4,143 people in the construction sector, while rising by 708 people in the agriculture sector.

Spain's Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said this data was "excellent" and considered the figures a reason to go on working. He said that it could be possible to meet the goal set by his government: 20 million Spaniards working by 2020.
