Spain's unemployment falls by 340,700 in Q2

MADRID, July 27 (Xinhua) -- The number of Spain's unemployed fell by 340,700 in the second quarter of 2017, according to the Economically Active Population Survey published by Spain's Statistical Office (INE) Thursday.

The figure meant an 8.01 percent fall when compared with the first quarter of the year, and the total number of Spain's unemployed stood at 3.9 million by the end of June, the INE said.

On a year-on-year basis, the number of unemployed in Spain fell by 660,400 people, which meant a 14.4 percent decrease.

A total of 375,000 new jobs were created in the second quarter of 2017 and the number of employed people stood at 18.8 million, the highest number since the third quarter of 2010.

The number of unemployed fell below 4 million for the first time since the fourth quarter of 2008 and Spain's unemployment rate stood at 17.22 percent, also its lowest level since the end of 2008, when the financial crisis started.
