BRATISLAVA, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Slovakia is currently the training place of UN Cyprus Mission, Slovak Defence Ministry spokesperson Danka Capakova confirmed on Sunday.

According to Capakova, a total of 26 professional soldiers of mixed nationalities -- 10 from Slovakia, 12 from Hungary and four from Serbia -- underwent preparation training this week reserved for key personnel ahead of their upcoming departure to the UNFICYP mission.

"The soldiers were drilled in standard operating procedures, force deployments as well as the cultural realities of the zone of operations," stressed Capakova.

Slovakia has been involved in the UNFICYP mission since May 27, 2001 - a period spanning more than 16 years. More than 3,000 members of the Slovak Armed Forces have served their tours of duty under the auspices of the UN, with 130 of them being women. The Slovak contingent is in charge of Sector 4 and currently includes 169 Slovak troopers, nine of whom are female.
