BRATISLAVA, June 29 (Xinhua) -- The oldest and largest folklore festival in Slovakia began in the village of Vychodna in Northern Slovakia on Thursday.

The main theme of the 63rd edition of the festival is folklore in its traditional and modern forms.

"As time progresses the demands of spectators attending folklore festivals also grows. We try to respond to it so that the Vychodna festival remains the most prestigious folklore festival in Slovakia," said the festival's program director Pavol Pitonak, adding that it aims to motivate children to appreciate traditions, demolish the borders between nations and discover different cultures.

More than 2,100 artists will perform on the stages of the open air amphitheatre during the four days of the festival.

"The final gala program on Sunday is set to attract as many children and parents as possible," added festival director Jana Kresakova.
