Two killed in plane crash at golf course in U.S.

LOS ANGELES, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Two people were killed after a small plane crashed at a golf course in Mesa of the southwestern U.S. state of Arizona Monday.

Two people aboard the plane were killed when the aircraft crashed.Nobody at the course was injured.

According to the ABC 15 news channel, the aircraft, a Lancair Evolution, reported mechanical trouble and was unable to reach Falcon Field Airport before it crashed about 5:00 p.m. (2400 GMT) at Longbow Golf Club near Higley and McDowell roads, 622 kilometers east of Los Angeles.

The aircraft was completely destroyed after it burned into a ball of fire, Deputy Mesa Fire Chief Forrest Smith told AZCentral.com. It took firefighters 20 minutes to extinguish the fire and firefighters tried their best to preserve the scene for investigators.

Marshall, a Mesa resident who lives near Falcon Field, was quoted by the AZCentral.com as saying that he had played at the course before and it appeared the crash occurred near the 10th hole.

The accident will be investigated.
