TRIPOLI, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Libyan army said Monday 43 army engineers were killed and 27 others wounded in explosions of landmines, which were planted by terrorist groups in the city of Benghazi.

The army spokesman Al Awamy confirmed in a statement to the Libyan LANA news agency that the number of victims among civilians rose to 19 as a result of the mine explosions that occurred during the past 10 days.

He said that civilian victims were mostly merchants and shop owners in Darnah Street.

The spokesman warned residents of Al Hoot market in Benghazi against returning to their homes before being declared mine-free by the Libyan armed forces.
