TOKYO, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened sharply higher Tuesday, as investors took a solid lead from the Dow Jones Industrial Average closing at a record overnight, while a softer yen added broader support and lifted exporters.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 238.71 points, or 1.19 percent, from Monday to 20,306.46.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 16.50 points, or 1.03 percent, to 1,622.57.

Rubber product, securities and machinery-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in early trade.
