BAGHDAD, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Iraq on Wednesday strongly condemned the terrorist attacks that took place in the Iranian capital Tehran, which killed 12 people and injured dozens of others.

"The Iraqi Foreign Ministry condemns the terrorist attacks that occurred in Tehran, asserting Iraq's solidarity with the people and the government of Iran," the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry also confirmed that Iraq "stands in the same trench against all threats to Iran's internal security and the safety of its citizens."

The ministry reiterated Iraq's call for further coordination of international efforts aimed at eliminating terrorist organizations, foremost of which the Islamic State (IS) militant group, the statement said.

Two attacks by militants against Iran's parliament and Imam Khomeini Shrine earlier in the day left at least 12 people killed and wounded some 42 others.
