NEW DELHI, June 6 (Xinhua) -- At least two people were killed and 22 others injured in a road accident in the northern Indian state of Punjab Tuesday, a senior police official said.
"The accident occurred when a private tourist bus collided head-on with a oil tanker after the driver lost control of the speeding vehicle while negotiating a curve near Kathgarh on Balachaur-Ropar Road," he said, on condition of anonymity.
While two persons, including a child, were killed in the impact of the collision, those injured have been admitted to various state-run hospitals, where the condition of at least three are said to be serious, the official said, adding the injured were mostly the passengers and driver of the bus.
The bus was headed towards the city of Amritsar from Banur when the accident happened, local TV channels reported.
A probe has been ordered into the incident, the official said.
The accident came a day after 22 people were charred to death and many others sustained burn injuries when a passenger bus caught fire after colliding with a truck in the neighboring state of Uttar Pradesh.
India's road fatality rate is among the highest in the world, according to statistics. Most of the road occurred due to poor driving or badly maintained roads and vehicles.
