Cyclone Mora destroys 20,000 houses in Myanmar

YANGON, June 4 (Xinhua) -- The recent Cyclone Mora has destroyed or damaged some 20,000 houses in two states and one region in Myanmar, official media reported Sunday.

No deaths were reported in Myanmar.

The storm, that swept through the western coast on Tuesday, brought destruction to Rakhine and Chin states and Ayeyawaddy region, according to the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement.

Those damaged or destroyed also included 325 schools, 32 office buildings, 57 religious buildings, 429 non-residential buildings, 23 hospitals and clinics, three bridges, 38 utility poles and 22 motor boats.

The storm began in the Bay of Bengal, headed north and left a trail of destruction.
