SOFIA, May 12 (Xinhua) -- Life expectancy of the Bulgarian population has in 10 years risen from 72.6 to 74.7 years in 2016, official data showed Friday.
Last year, life expectancy was 71.2 year for male and 78.2 years for female, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) reported.
From 2006 to 2016, life expectancy increased for male population by 2.2 years, while for female by 1.9 years.
Meanwhile, life expectancy of the urban population was 75.5 years, which was 2.9 years higher than that of the rural's which stood at 72.6 years, the data showed.
Comparing to 2006, an increase of 2.5 years was observed for the urban population and of 1.1 years for the rural.
However, Bulgaria's 74.7 years, Latvia's 74.8 years and Lithuania's 74.6 years were the lowest life expectancy in the European Union (EU), the NSI said.
The highest life expectancy in the EU was registered in Spain -- 83.0 years. The second was Italy's 82.7 years.
