YANGON, April 17 (Xinhua) -- Cyclone Maarutha, which formed in the middle of the Bay of Bengal and made the landfall near Thandwe, western Myanmar's Rakhine coast, Sunday night, has caused destruction in areas in Rakhine state, Magway and Ayeyawaddy regions, said the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement on Monday.
According to the preliminary report, dozens of civilian houses, police wards, schools and monasteries in Thandwe, Mann Aung, Taunggup and Ngpali areas in Rakhine state were destroyed.
Moreover, 31 houses in Ayeyawaddy region's Mawlamyinegyun, one temporary bridge in Magway region's Myothit and one relief camp in Rakhine state's Kyaukphyu were also destroyed.
According to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, the cyclone has lost strength on Monday morning.
The small storm has brought about rainfall in most parts of the areas.
