Myanmar president calls for combining ethnic diversity in pursuing peace

YANGON, April 17 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar President U Htin Kyaw on Monday urged the country's more than 100 ethnic nationalities to combine their diversity and turn it into force in the new year in pursuit of national reconciliation and peace.

U Htin Kyaw made the remarks in his message delivered on the occasion of the first day of the Myanmar calendar New Year after a four-day water festival.

Vowing to make utmost efforts to make the best use of peace funds acquired at home and abroad, U Htin Kyaw anticipated that the country would gain good and encouraging results in the new year.

The president thanked the people for having trust and understanding in the government while it is struggling to overcome the country's social difficulties after it came into power last year.

He said 2017 will be a year of peace with good outcomes economically.
