Red alert issued as Cyclone Maarutha to fall on Myanmar's state

YANGON, April 16 (Xinhua) -- The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology of Myanmar issued a red alert on Sunday that Cyclone Maarutha will make the landfall near Thandwe township, Rakhine state, within 12 hours.

According to the forecast released at 13:30 p.m local time, Cyclone Maarutha will fall with the wind speed of 80 to 97 km per hour.

The cyclone will create huge waves with heavy rain and surface wind of 116 km per hour along the sea coast and offshore.

Meanwhile, heavy rain is falling across most parts of the regions and states on Sunday.

The authorities also warned of flooding and landslide.
