NEW DELHI, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- At least five people were killed and 10 others injured, some of them critically, in a boiler blast inside a sugar mill in India's eastern state of Bihar, police said Thursday.

The blast took place Wednesday night at Sasamusa of Gopalganj district, about 145 km northwest of Patna, the capital city of Bihar.

"Late last night a boiler exploded in a sugar mill here, killing five people and injuring 10 others," a police official posted in Gopalganj said.

"The injured were immediately referred to the nearest hospital, where condition of some was stated to be critical."

The victims were identified as workers working in the mill.

Health officials said there was a possibility that the death toll may increase in wake of the critical condition of some injured workers.

Local media reports said police have arrested the owner of the sugar mill.

Police have registered the case and ordered investigations into the incident. Police officials suspect overheating of the boiler is the reason behind the blast.
