NEW DELHI, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- At least 14 Indian military pilots have been killed in 35 defense aircraft crashes in the past three years, the Indian government said.

The aircraft crashes included 11 helicopters, each and every crash between 2014 and 2017 was fully probed by a court of inquiry, Minister of State Defence Subhash Bhamre informed the country's Parliament Wednesday.

The Indian government has been taking adequate preventive measures to bring down the number of defense aircraft crashes, he added.

"Various preventive measures are being taken, including invigoration of the Aviation Safety Organisation, streamlining of accident/incident reporting procedure, analytical studies, and quality audits of aircraft fleet, to identify vulnerable areas to avoid such accidents," he said.

"Accident prevention programmes have been given an added thrust to identify risk-prone and hazardous areas specific to the aircraft fleet and operational environment to ensure safe practices and procedures," the minister said.
