MOSCOW, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned that Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital and plans to move the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem will imperil peace and stability in the region, said an official statement.

The two leaders expressed serious concerns about latest development in Jerusalem over phone, according to the statement published on the Russian presidential website on Thursday.

The statement also said that further escalation of tensions in the region would be unacceptable. The international community should make efforts to resume Palestinian-Israeli talks in search of a compromise solution to all issues, including the status of Jerusalem.

The two leaders also highlighted the importance of UN Security Council on solving the dispute. Palestinians' civil rights should be considered, according to the statement.
