DAMASCUS, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- At least seven people were killed and eight others wounded on Tuesday when an explosive device ripped through a communal bus in the central city of Homs, state news agency SANA reported.

The explosive device was planted in the bus that exploded in the Ekrima neighborhood in Homs, said SANA.

The same neighborhood was targeted several times by car bombs and explosive devices.

Ekrima neighborhood is inhabited by pro-government people. The former rebel-held areas in Homs city were liberated by the army, but the rebels still have positions in the countryside.

The explosion comes at a time when the government delegation and the opposition are taking part in the Syrian talks in Geneva.

The talks are still ongoing but achieved no progress amid tense atmosphere, following the opposition demand for President Bashar al-Assad to step down.

Also, the government delegation sent signals that it would withdraw from the talks.
