JERUSALEM, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- A projectile that hit the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights was believed to be the stray fire from the internal conflict in Syria, Israel's military said on Sunday.

A military spokesperson said in a statement that the projectile caused no injuries or damage, and the Israeli troops were searching the area to find its remnants.

Errant Syrian projectiles, including bullets and mortars, occasionally hit the southern Golan Heights, a disputed territory that Israel seized from Syria in the 1967 Middle East war and annexed later.

The incident came a day after Israel struck with surface-to-surface missiles a military base outside the Syrian capital Damascus, according to Syrian state TV SANA.

Two missiles were intercepted while others caused damage to the site, SANA reported.

The Israeli military declined to comment on the report.

Israel has attacked Syrian military sites before, claiming that the attacks were meant to halt arms transfers to Hezbollah, Syria's Lebanese ally.

Hours after the attack, Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a pre-prepared video comment, warning that Israel would not allow Iran to establish a military presence in Syria.

"I will reiterate the policy of Israel - We will not allow a regime which is determined to destroy the Jewish nation to acquire a nuclear weapon," he said. "We will not allow this regime to establish a military presence in Syria."
