Malaysia's producer price up 4.7 pct on year

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's producer price index (PPI) rose 4.7 percent year-on-year in October, said Malaysia's statistics department Thursday.

The number was lower compared to that of September, which was 6 percent, according to a statement from the department.

Among the sectors which showed significant increases in October were mining, which surged 19.6 percent; agriculture, forestry and fishing that grew 4.3 percent.

The manufacturing index rose 3.6 percent, while electricity and gas supply increased by 0.3 percent.

The index for water supply, however, decreased by 0.3 percent.

On a monthly basis, PPI for local production declined by 0.6 percent in October, dragged by three sectors namely agriculture, forestry and fishing; manufacturing; electricity and gas supply.
