MACAO, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- A direct air route linking China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) with Malaysia's southern city of Johor Bahru has been launched, according to Macao International Airport (MIA) on Wednesday.

The new route from Macao to Johor Bahru, with daily direct flights since Nov. 28, is operated by Air Asia. It is also the airline's second Malaysian route from Macao, and the seventh international destinations from Macao.

Southeast Asian market is an important source, with an increasing number of air passengers travelling to Macao each year, director of the MIA's marketing department Eric Fong said at the launching ceremony.

It is hoped that this new route will be another popular route for travellers from Macao and Pearl River Delta to Southeast Asia, he added.
